Graphic Designer Interview Questions & Answers

1) Tell me about yourself

The interviewers already know your majors, university and where you born. It is no point to repeat again verbally. The reason of the interviewer to ask "Tell Me About Yourself" is because he want to know how can you create values for the role and company, but not to hear an answer that can be found on your resume

My name is Kelvin. I am a freelance graphic designer and I have served more than 50 customers to design their daily social media posts. I plan to fully focus on my full-time job to improve my design skills and provide values to my future company.

2) What is your favorite type of project?

This question gives the employer a chance to figure out what you like and dislike, as well as showing that you are passionate about design. You should find something in their portfolio or work history or description they gave on LinkedIn/the job listing which sparked an interest for you- this will show them how much.

I really enjoy designing logos, and I feel like they are a great way to introduce the personality of an organization.

3) What's your favorite graphic design software?

The interviewer asks this question to understand whether you are familiar with the software that is normally used by the company. Software is just the tools that you used to work. 4) What are your thoughts on design trends?

This is very subjective; it's best to answer based on what you personally like. However, you should try to answer this question by combining the art sense and business perspective. The interviewer may ask this question to test whether you understand what are the trending requirements from the market. You shouldn't show that you only live in your own art world without understanding business needs at all. If the interviewer likes modern, minimalistic designs but they're also hiring for a logo designer position and you don't prefer or enjoy creating that style of work, then this might be an issue for them- there needs to be consistency in order to create a cohesive product.

I'm always trying new things and I think trends can help with inspiration! It depends on what type of project I'm working on as well- sometimes more experimental styles fit better whereas other times traditional looks may suit their needs better.

5) What do you think is your biggest strength?

This question can be a difficult one because it's hard to know what the hiring manager might want. The interviewer wanted to know if your strengths fit the role and job scopes. The interviewer will not able to know the full pictures if you only express them in one sentence or even can't answer the question. The strength must be revelant to the job scopes. You should include a soft skill that the interviewer thinks can improve the efficiency of the job . And also don't forget to tell the interviewers how did you get these strengths

6) Why did you choose to be a graphic designer?

This is a question that many graphic designers are asked during an interview. Their answer will give the interviewer insight into their professional career and what they have to offer in terms of experience and skill set. Graphic design professionals may not always come from a graphic arts background, but even if this isn't the case, it won't hurt them as long as they research how to best respond.

8) Where do you see yourself in five years?

This is the question that gives you an opportunity to show how well you know this company, and why it's a great fit for your skills. You can talk about any specific projects or products they might be working on now, their values as a company, what drew you to them in the first place- anything that will give the interviewer insight into where you see yourself fitting within their organization.

I'd like to stay here for another two years before I start my own business" or "Within five years

9) Do you have any questions for us?

This is the last question of an interview. It's sometimes difficult to think of a question on the spot, but it can give your interviewer insight into what type of person they're hiring and show that you care about their company as much as they do. Try asking how design has changed over time or if there are any similar designers they admire in order to get them talking about something close to their heart - and make sure not to ask anything too personal like where someone grew up or what their favorite color is!
