Makan-makan Malaysia

One of the most iconic and relatable parts of Malaysian culture has to be its wide variety of food, snacks and drinks. Its something that we all see and eat everyday and its also something newcomers are able to easily try and enjoy. 'Makan-makan' (literally translated as 'food-food') is a term used as an outing with the intent to eat and seems like a fitting title for this design. With this thought, I had sketched and collaged a series of Malaysian 'makanan' (foods) as as a pattern inspired by all the food I was craving for at the time of drawing. A few Malaysian decorations are also mixed in the collage. Maybe it would be a fun game to see if you could name all the items on the umbrella to see how Malaysian you are!
